Role Overview

Al Jazeera Media Network is seeking a seasoned Head of Automation to lead our automated studio production and gallery directing operations in Doha, Qatar. This senior leadership role requires comprehensive experience in broadcast automation systems and a proven track record of supervising high-performance teams in a fast-paced media environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of automated studio production workflows and gallery directing processes.
• Manage a team of automation engineers and technical directors to ensure seamless live and recorded broadcast operations.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for automated control rooms, robotic cameras, and media servers.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and IT departments to integrate automation solutions with existing broadcast infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and maintain broadcast quality.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in broadcast automation and recommend upgrades to enhance efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 8–10 years of experience in broadcast automation, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Hard Skills: Expertise in automated production systems (e.g., Grass Valley, Sony, Ross Video), gallery directing software, and media asset management. Proficiency in scripting for automation (Python, VB Script) is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 news environment.
• Certifications: Relevant industry certifications in automation systems or project management preferred.
