About the Role
A Polo Horse Specialist is responsible for the training, conditioning, care, and performance management of polo horses to ensure their readiness for training sessions and competitions. This role demands deep expertise in equine behavior, fitness regimes, and polo-specific skills such as agility, responsiveness, and speed. The specialist works closely with riders, stable managers, and veterinary teams to maintain peak horse health and competitive readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement tailored training programs for polo horses, focusing on agility, speed, and responsiveness during matches.
- Oversee daily conditioning routines, including exercise schedules, diet plans, and recovery protocols.
- Monitor horse health in coordination with veterinarians, addressing injuries, nutritional needs, and overall well-being.
- Manage grooming, tack fitting, and equipment maintenance to ensure optimal comfort and performance.
- Evaluate horse temperament and suitability for polo, recommending acquisitions or retirements as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of training progress, health milestones, and competition readiness for each horse.
- Coordinate with polo coaches and players to align training goals with team strategies.
- Ensure stable hygiene, safety protocols, and proper turnout routines are consistently followed.
Requirements
- Proven experience in equine training, preferably with polo horses or high-performance sport horses.
- Strong understanding of horse anatomy, physiology, and behavior.
- Ability to develop and adjust conditioning programs based on individual horse needs.
- Knowledge of equine nutrition, injury prevention, and basic first aid.
- Physical stamina and comfort working around large animals in outdoor environments.
- Attention to detail in monitoring health indicators and training milestones.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with vets, riders, and stable staff.
