Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to join our team at OQ RPI in Oman. This role sits within the HSSE - Safety & NGLE function under the Commercial & Downstream stream. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance across all operations, ensuring a secure and risk-free workplace for all personnel and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations, industry best practices, and OQ RPI internal standards.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver safety training programs and awareness sessions to employees, contractors, and visitors on topics including emergency response, PPE usage, and hazard recognition.
- Manage and maintain all safety documentation, including permits-to-work, safety data sheets, and compliance records.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure operational safety is integrated into all project phases, from planning through execution.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring all emergency equipment is functional and accessible.
- Track and report on key safety performance indicators (KPIs), providing regular updates to senior management.
- Support budget control activities related to OPEX and CAPEX for safety-related initiatives and equipment.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the organization through engagement, communication, and leadership by example.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a safety officer or HSE role, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or industrial sector.
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence safety behavior at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HSE reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
