About the Role
KBR’s Sustainable Technology division is seeking a highly experienced Lead Construction Engineer – Civil/Structural (Buildings) to join our team in Kuwait. This is a senior-level construction engineering position focused on the successful delivery of large-scale building projects. The Lead Construction Engineer will oversee all civil and structural aspects of construction, ensuring compliance with international standards, project specifications, and client expectations. This role is critical to the planning, execution, and completion of high-profile building developments across Kuwait.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all civil and structural construction activities on building projects from inception through completion.
- Review and approve structural designs, drawings, and engineering specifications to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless execution of construction activities.
- Develop and implement construction execution plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies to meet project milestones.
- Supervise on-site construction teams, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Manage material procurement, subcontractor coordination, and day-to-day construction operations.
- Resolve technical issues and engineering challenges that arise during construction, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Prepare and present progress reports, risk assessments, and technical documentation to senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with local building codes, regulations, and international engineering standards.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional development within the team.
- Support cost control efforts by monitoring construction budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and minimizing waste.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in civil/structural construction engineering, with a strong focus on buildings and large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record as a Lead Engineer or Senior Construction Engineer on complex building projects.
- In-depth knowledge of structural systems, including reinforced concrete, steel foundations, and composite structures.
- Strong proficiency in construction management software, structural analysis tools, and engineering design platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000).
- Excellent understanding of international construction standards and codes (ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes).
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple stakeholders in fast-paced project environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex engineering and construction challenges effectively.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate across all levels of the organization.
- Professional certification such as PMP, PE, or equivalent is highly preferred.
- Prior experience working on projects in the Middle East / Gulf region is a strong advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building standards (LEED, BREEAM).
- Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflows and coordination.
- Knowledge of Kuwait local construction regulations, permitting processes, and authority approvals.
- Experience in contract administration, claims management, and variation order processing.
- Proficiency in project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
