Electrical Technician
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Technician to join our operations team in Qatar. This role involves performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide range of electrical equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability across industrial facilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems, including inspection, testing, and servicing of components.
- Perform predictive maintenance using thermal imaging, vibration analysis, and insulation resistance testing to identify potential failures before they occur.
- Carry out corrective maintenance and emergency repairs on electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors and pumps, including alignment, bearing replacement, and rewinding coordination.
- Maintain and repair Motor Control Centers (MCCs), including contactors, overload relays, circuit breakers, and starters.
- Diagnose and service Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including parameter configuration, fault code analysis, and component-level repair.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and PLC I/O wiring drawings.
- Conduct cable termination, glanding, and testing for low-voltage power and control cables.
- Ensure compliance with IEC standards, NEC, and local Qatar electrical regulations.
- Document all maintenance activities in CMMS, including work orders, test reports, and spare parts usage.
- Participate in lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and permit-to-work systems for high-risk tasks.
- Support shutdown and turnaround activities with pre-planning, execution, and post-maintenance testing.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering or Electromechanical Technology.
- Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience in industrial electrical maintenance (oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy manufacturing preferred).
- Proven expertise in MCC maintenance, VFD troubleshooting (ABB, Siemens, Schneider, Danfoss), and motor/pump repair.
- Strong working knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley) for electrical fault diagnosis.
- Valid Qatar electrical license or ability to obtain one; familiarity with Kahramaa regulations.
- Certifications in HV switching, arc flash safety, and confined space entry are advantageous.
- Proficiency with test instruments: megger, multimeter, clamp meter, power quality analyzer, thermal camera.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SCADA/DCS integration for electrical monitoring.
- Knowledge of hazardous area classification (ATEX/IECEx) and Ex-equipment inspection.
- Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) methodologies.
- Ability to mentor junior technicians and lead small maintenance crews.
